Sony has today announced its intention to buy Bungie, the Washington based studio most well known for the Xbox franchise Halo as well as Destiny 1 & 2.
The Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, has stated in the announcement deal that “Bungie will remain an independent and multi-platform studio and publisher.” So this announcement would have come with a plethora of speculation around Destiny becoming PlayStation exclusive, but Ryan stamped that out immediately.
In the annoucement the CEO of Bungie Pete Parsons did say that Sony are still giving Bungie all of the creative freedoms they want, but being fully backed by Sony means they have limitless possibilities
And of course this news comes just weeks after Microsoft’s annoucement that they were acquiring Activision Blizzard for an eye-watering $100 Billion AUD.
Is Sony’s acquisition of Bungie simply a response to Microsoft’s dealings earlier this month, or is it simply a part of Sony Interactive’s larger plan? Only time will tell.
