Sony Buys Bluepoint, Surprises No One

Confirming one of the worst kept secrets in gaming, PlayStation has finally made it official, announcing its acquisition of Bluepoint Games, the acclaimed remaster masters behind the recent Demon Soul’s PS5 remake. The purchase will come as no surprise, with PlayStation accidentally leaking the announcement way back in June, when Bluepoint’s logo in a social media post announcing the acquisition of Returnal developer, Housemarque.

The announcement was made over on the PlayStation Blog, with Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, praising the Texas-based studio for ‘creating some of the highest-quality remasters and remakes in the industry’, such as Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and the PS4 PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus.

In a further statement, Bluepoint President Marco Thrush points out the opportunities now open to the studio. “It finally gives us the ability to work on original content, which is what we’re actually currently doing,” Thrush said. “There’s no other party we would want to partner with. It’s kind of like Sony is, has and always will be the perfect partner”.

Bluepoint is just the latest in a flurry of acquisitions Sony has made lately, with the aforementioned Housemarque pick-up occurring in June and The PlayRoom developers Firesprite joining the first-party fold just a few weeks ago. With the shockwaves of the Microsoft/Bethesda deal still being felt, this is no doubt Sony’s attempt to counter the market shift.

Now we just need to wait for the Metal Gear Solid remaster….please, Bluepoint, I’m begging!
