Nintendo has officially revealed the new Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model), which looks great despite that garbage name. Due for release October 8th for $349.99 (MSRP), the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) ‘features a vibrant 7-inch OLED screen, a wide adjustable stand, a dock with a wired LAN port, 64 GB of internal storage, and enhanced audio”. The new console will come in two skews, with one sporting new white Joy-Cons and dock, and the other in the classic red and blue colour scheme with black dock.
Despite rumours swirling earlier this year, the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) will not offer 4K support nor come with any performance improvements, which is a bit of a bummer. At least the OLED screen will make the colours in Metroid Dread, which also drops October 8th, really pop.
The announcement has been met with mixed reactions online, with many fans struggling to justify forking out that much cash for a slightly bigger and better screen (it’s me. I’m ‘fans’). It will also be interesting to see if the console runs into the same manufacturing issues, leading to similar shortages that Microsoft and Sony have run into with their newest hardware.
