Agent 47 Usually Works Cleaner Than This!
After days of confusion, IO Interactive and Epic Games have clarified the situation surrounding carrying over locations and progress from previous titles to Hitman 3 on PC, confirming that players will not need to re-purchase games they already own in order to access their content. However, a fix will not be available at launch.
As outlined on Twitter, IO Interactive and Epic are trying to mitigate the negative impacts of the situation by offering a few perks concerning the older titles. “We guarantee that players will not need to re-purchase the games,” IO Interactive wrote. “Until we roll that out in the coming weeks, the Hitman 1 GOTY Access Pass will be free to own for all PC players who pre-purchase or purchase Hitman 3 in the first 10 days after release.”
The clarification comes after reports that players who already owned Hitman 2 on Steam would need to re-purchase the game to track their progress into the new game as the Epic Store-exclusive Hitman 3 would not detect the previous titles. This understandably pissed off many fans, especially after IO Interactive assured players that the transfer would be easy. “We are pleased to confirm that PC players will be able to carry over their current progression and unlocks from Hitman 2 on Steam into Hitman 3 on Epic Games Store,” the studio wrote last August.
Would be nice if Epic and Valve started playing nice, for the sake of the fans. Personally, I’m not holding my breath.
Hitman 3 hits Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, PS5 and via the Epic Store on January 20th.
