With just over two months until the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 hits PC and consoles, CD Projekt Red has shone a light on Night City, its criminal underbelly, and revealed recommended PC specs during episode 3 of Night City Wire.
The first trailer of the event, Postcards from Night City, gives us a proper taste of what Night City is as a whole, rather than focusing solely on the crime-riddled underground we have seen before. Explained further by Senior Level Designer Miles Tost, Night City is as full of personality as any other character in Cyberpunk 2077. The city is divided into six core districts, each containing smaller districts, so that players don’t get fatigued by seeing the same things over and over. The districts of Night City include the industrial Watson, the open-markets of Heywood, the domestication of Westbrook, Santo Domingo (home to The Best Burrito in Town™!), the up-and-coming Pacifica, and of course, the City Center. Imagine GTA V‘s Los Santos snorted a line of neon and rocketed a thousand years into the future. That’s Night City.
Eager fans can find out even more about Night City by visiting Nightcity.love, the official webpage of Night City – City of Dreams, mentioned during the presentation. Be sure to check it out if you are after more lore, news (such as the upcoming Night City mayoral election), travel advice or want to see some of the insane vehicles and gadgets you’ll be playing with upon release. Just watch out for the spam advertising. There is also a ticking body count at the top of the page to remind you that under its chrome-plated exterior, Night City is a monster, ready to chew you up and spit out whatever is left.
In the second new gameplay trailer, we get a closer look at The Gangs of Night City. These gangs include the heavily augmented Maelstrom, the 2nd amendment loving 6th Street and The Mox, a gang out to ‘protect working girls and guys’ from abuse from clients and employers. As a mercenary, players won’t be able to join these gangs, but they will undoubtedly play a significant role in V’s quest, providing missions, assistance and acting as cannon fodder when they cross you. As good as some of this looked though, the footage shown did the game no favours in regards to criticism of racial stereotyping, namely the depictions of the Valentinos, Tyger Claws and Voodoo Boys gangs, throughout Cyberpunk 2077.
Rounding out the Night City Wire, CD Projekt Red finally revealed the system requirements needed to get the game humming along on PC. The great news is that the minimum specs don’t seem too demanding, with most mid-range setups well equipped to run it. If you want to really push it, you may want to look into upgrading to the new RTX 30-series GPUs to take advantage of the ray tracing and to see the breathtaking Keanu Reeves in glorious 4k. Sploosh
It won’t be too long until we have Cyberpunk 2077 in our grubby little hands, with the game releasing on November 19th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with a free upgrade to next-gen becoming available down the track.
