We knew it was coming, but I don’t think anyone dreamt it would be so soon. Sony has officially announced God Of War: Ragnarok, the sequel to 2018’s critically acclaimed God Of War, due 2021. Though the teaser was brief, just Kratos’ booming voice over the reveal of a new logo, it was enough to send fans into overdrive. Not going to lie, I got a little emotional.
The Ragnorok theme has been teased for a while now, from the extra ending scene in God of War to a secret message hidden in a PlayStation 4 theme pack, and even a few clues laid throughout the Twitter account of creative director, Cory Barlog.
In Nordic folklore, Ragnarok is a cataclysmic battle, culminating in the death of many gods and the flooding of the world – something Kratos already has experience with. The term ‘Ragnarok’ actually translates to “final destiny of the gods, so if God Of War: Ragnarok follows the traditional tale, it looks like Kratos and Atreus are in for a Helheim of a time.
