What’s Better Than Smacking Around A Bokoblin? Smacking Around A Thousand Bokoblins!
The surprise game announcements keep on coming with Nintendo revealing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a hack’n’slash prequel set 100-years before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, will allow players to battle as Link, Zelda, Revali, Daruk, Mipha, and Urbosa, as they take on hordes of enemies in a quest to ‘save Hyrule from the impending Calamity’ aka, Calamity Ganon.
For anyone who’s played The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll know that doesn’t quite go to plan.
Koei Tecmo, the studio behind 2014’s Hyrule Warriors, will develop the new game which will release surprisingly soon, on November 20, 2020 for the NIntendo Switch. Gameplaywise, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity looks to play very similar other ‘Warriors’ titles with their ‘1vs1000’ battles, but like Nintendo did when making Breath of the Wild, the team as Koei Tecmo is looking to break free of the conventions used in their past games. The game has been made in close conjunction with the Zelda team to ensure that everything from art-style to dialogue remains true to the new direction of the series. Judging from the trailer, I think fans of both series could be in for something quite fun that will scratch that Zelda-itch
However, if you’re eagerly awaiting a full sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Eiji Aonuma, producer of the beloved series, says we will need to wait a bit longer for updates. Perhaps more news will coincide with the rumoured announcement of a Switch 2, as I cannot think of a better system seller – also, I want to see Prince Sidon in all his 4k glory.
