In a now-removed post on its support site, Ubisoft has let slip that PlayStation 5 backwards compatibility will only extend as far back as the PlayStation 4, meaning your PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 games are going to continue gathering dust.
The revelation was made in a post regarding transitioning PS4 titles to next-gen, reading “Backwards compatibility will be available for supported PlayStation 4 titles, but will not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation 1 games”.
While it seems probable the statement regards the upcoming console as a whole, there is a chance the restrictions may apply only to Ubisoft titles – bad news for anyone wanting to re-play Speed Challenge: Jacques Villeneuve’s Racing Vision.
Sony is yet to comment on the matter.
