A new and improved version of the Nintendo Switch could be just around the corner with reports indicating a ‘Pro’ version of Nintendo’s uber-successful handheld console will be releasing some time in 2021, alongside a slew of new games.
Via a report from Bloomberg, the new console will be quite the step up from its predecessor, with improved processing power, capable of pumping out 4K high-definition graphics. However, it is not clear if that is both in handheld and docked modes.
The new console will also bring about a new wave of games from Nintendo, which according to the same report, will ‘address a wide range of players, from casual gamers seeking small doses of escapism to more devoted fans putting in marathon gaming sessions”. Breath of the Wild 2 in 4K? Yes please!
Other than the juggernaut that was Animal Crossing, Nintendo has been strangely quiet this year, leaving the spotlight to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, which are both slated for release later this year. It appears Nintendo has perhaps just been keeping its powder dry. If a new Switch console does indeed drop next year, we gamers will be eating well in 2021 – much to the dismay of our wallets
